Misunderstandings and ProcrastinationsHi guys, Shin here.
I've just finished the last batch of commissions yesterday. Some of you may be wondering why I take so long with commissions. :iconpluehunter: and I we did discus about this issue. To sum it up, please watch this video:
Procrastination is the fear of not able to get things done.
Both plue and I are college students, I'm taking degree in Graphic Design and Illustration. Comments that I often receive from my friends who are taking finance, psychology, dentistry, mass communication, IT courses are:
"You're so active on social media, you're not busy at all!"
"Art? How hard can it be?"
"What is such a big deal about it?"
Maybe some of you thinks the same as well, to be honest taking degree might not make me as good as diploma art students as they are very skill trained. Degree drains my brain (I should be completing my 2500++ words essay instead of writing this journal) and sometimes I wish why am I doing this? I never draw manga art in college, so you can imagine
Is it that difficult to understand?Ok, so you all know that the Internet is full of persons that make commissions. They might be cheap, they might be expensive, they might be very talented, they might be not so talented, price might be worth, price might not be worth...
But, HOLLY FUCK, IT'S STILL THEM SPENDING THEIR FUCKING TIME OF THEIR LIFE TO DO SOMETHING FOR YOU.
Really. It's annoying of how immature can people be (not only in Tumblr but deviantART itself!!) by saying "how come this artist is full of commission when I'm better and nobody asks me for one?". Well, if you don't have enough commissions, you know the possible answers: You're not popular enough or you're not good enough. I can't offer any solution for the first case because I will still think it's just a matter of luck (and promotion, exposures, etc), but I DO CAN offer an advice for the second one: If you're still not good enough, try lowing your prices. I know it wouldn't be economically worth in the begining, but it will be worth for EXPERIENCE
5 things...... that any BL/yaoi MUST have to make me it enjoy (they're in order of preference):
1- MANLY MEN. I'm especially talking about UKES, which tend to be ridicously effeminate. Girls with penises. It pisses me the hell off.
2- PLOT. I don't want "decorated" porn, neither cute boys acting like 15 yo girls. Give me an interesting plot (especially suspense/action) and I may give it a chance.
3- REALISM. No, I don't mean I don't like alternative universes or fantasy, but REALISTIC CHARACTERS. Sorry, but the "rape-me-and-I'll-love-you" is old fashioned and wrong. Not to talk about the uke being treated like a woman. WTF.
4- CREEPY THINGS. I mean, blood, gore, guro, violence, wounds, maybe some mutilations... forget about bestiality. I want HUMAN-LOOKING men.
5- BAD ENDINGS. I hate fluffy stuff. Not only in BL but ANYTHING in general. I've already enjoyed some BLs with "happy" endings, but they don't use to be my cup of tea, really. Also, if they've got a happy ending, please, put som
Just a small sort of rant.Well, if you could even call it a rant, since I'm not really angry or anything, I just want to get these words out of my system so I can stop thinking about how to phrase it. For the few who are hoping to get to know me better, here's a bit of help.
I've been on DA since 2005, so that's like...7 years? I'm not as talented as some of the younger artists, who draw wonderfully when they are only 16. Back when I was 16, I was only a beginner in digital art, and I've made progress and improvements rather slowly.
Now, I have 600k some pageviews and 15k+ watchers. I guess you can call me semi-popular on DA, and I've even got a small fanclub as well as a great number of people who liked RE:A, the first game I've completed.
Of course, I couldn't have gotten this kind of fame without you guys, people who appreciate what I do. I'm not a fanartist, I rarely have the time and dedication to read/watch popular manga/shows and I've always got an inferiority
Facebook... ugh... so lame! I rarely enter my facebook account because I only created it to follow some sellers and well, I also added a few friends later.
Few days ago, I tried to enter my facebook account. I've always needed to write my email and password to enter.
But this time Facebook started to ask for my real name. I wrote my name and my first surname (in my country we have TWO surnames, dad's and mom's surname). They didn't validate what I wrote and blocked my facebook account because they thought I was lying or something...
The question is: why they even started to ask for my full name like if they were trying to verficate my true identity if I only used to write my email and pass to enter? The only reason I could came up with is that perhaps someone thought that I wasn't the real account owner (?) (I dunno but I'm aware that a lot of people report art submitted without permission around facebook because I've received a lot of notes about people telling me "
Why people think art should be cheapI mean some people even think that digital art should be cheaper than traditional, because there is no original.
Its funny when people ask tons of things in a drawing, like 30 characters fighting a 12 dragons, and they think they can get it cheaper than a pencil drawing, because in the computer there must be a secret brush that makes all of this in 2 hours.
Sadly, painted style in digital takes more time than traditional. Artists says its easier, because you have more control. But sadly textures are cooler in traditional, and easier.
I remember 4 or 5 years ago when started thinking bout digital, i said damn if i learn digital, i will skip drawings and paint directly, this will make my life easier, it will take me less time to finish a product, like i can even finish 3 drawings in just a day, yeahhh i should try that.
5 years later, i was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wroonnngggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg.
So i used to think the same about speed, but not about price.
Practical Strategies: How to be more popular in dAThank you all for always participating in my polls/surveys, and sorry that I can't reply to every comment personally, but they are indeed helpful and interesting, each comment has brought me new ideas and inspiration, so here, I have some strategies to share with you, content based on the results of my latest poll. http://kelly1412.deviantart.com/journal/poll/2995299/
It is true that your artwork is the key to all the attention you receive. However, there are still some strategies that could help you get more attention, in terms of comments, self-achievement, favorites and watchers. In this journey I'll share with you some strategies that I've discovered through my own personal analysis and observation.
(they've all been tested, but no guarantee if it will work for everyone.)
And it will not directly make your art better, only you have that ability within yourself!

Dysfunctional Systems is an episodic visual novel chronicling the life of Winter Harrison. These worlds are quite different from hers, ranging from troubled, to dystopian, to futuristic or fantastical. However, they are all riddled with problems that, if not resolved, may adversely affect her home world. She is chosen to become a "mediator", charged with the maintenance of order in these chaotic planes, and so enters a vocational school for training. Okay, so I might have mentioned this to a few of you guys individually, but I'm caught in a bit of an emergency. To do this, I'll be doing commissions to raise $100 each month. The amount I currently have for the trip will be in the title of the journal and will be updated as time goes on.
EVEN IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD A COMMISSION, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD. Any amount of help is appreciated!! ; U;

If I were a citizen of the US...If I were a citizen of the US I would take this quiz: "http://www.isidewith.com/" to become educated about which presidential choice is the right one for me. I'm not american, but I still find it educative and the people who "don't care" should be banished. It's your future and the quality of your living conditions we're talking about. e_e
I guess I would be voting for Jill Stein for a good wellfare system. My results: "http://www.isidewith.com/results/26828122"
NOT ALL ABOUT THE NUMBERSfor the longest time i have been trying to be popular, doing every thing to get hight statistics. but from this week of not posting i have been thinking i have been striving to get big numbers but by doing that i have lost some of my creativity and imagination. i had such a big imagination to start out with, but i did learn a bit when i was in this stage in my life, in my coloring and drawing. but that is pritty much what i got from doing that. so im no longer really going after to be popular just to have fun drawing and to show the best i have in my imagination.
but from this week also was feeling a bit down to. and was thinking on not drawing agin. becose i felt i was not really getting any were in my art, putting things off try to get things done and not turning how i want it, procrastinating.
but i know how much my art means to some of my watcher, so doing that will be hard to do if i even wanted to try.
im probly in that artest slump agin and thinking every one is better then me,
